2 Chronicle 29
6 Our ancestors were unfaithful and did what was evil in the sight of the Lord our God. They abandoned the Lord and his dwelling place; they turned their backs on him. 7 They also shut the doors to the Temple’s entry room, and they snuffed out the lamps. They stopped burning incense and presenting burnt offerings at the sanctuary of the God of Israel.  8 “That is why the Lord’s anger has fallen upon Judah and Jerusalem. He has made them an object of dread, horror, and ridicule, as you can see with your own eyes. 9 Because of this, our fathers have been killed in battle, and our sons and daughters and wives have been captured.
Roman 14
17 For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. 19 So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.
23 But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.
Psalm 24
3 Who may climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 Only those whose hands and hearts are pure,
      who do not worship idols
      and never tell lies.
5 They will receive the Lord’s blessing
and have a right relationship with God their savior.
Proverb 21
12 Ears to hear and eyes to see—
both are gifts from the Lord.
Sharing:  Thank you God for teaching me four lessons today, and please help me to apply to my life:
1. What things servants of God do would displease God that brings punishment on us :
           - Turning our backs on Him, not take care of His Temple, and stop our offerings (2 Chronicle 29: 6-9)
2. What things servants of God do would please God that brings approval of others:
           - Living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Roman 14: 17-19)
           - Knowing what's wrong or doubting what's wrong and doing it are both sinful.  God gives us conviction to do what's right. (Roman 14:23)
3. Who may climb the mountain of the Lord, and who may stand in His Holy place?
           - Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols, and those that do not tell lies (Psalm 24:4)
4. Why God gives us ears and eyes as gifts?
           - Because ears can hear and eyes can see.  They are both learning tools for us to know more about God's plan in Heaven and on earth (Proverb 21:12)
In summary:  God has given us so much (goodness, peace, joy, eyes, ears, churches, brothers and sisters etc...), all we have to do is just to follow Him with a pure heart and hand

 2 Chronicles 20: 21-26

2 Chronicles 15: 7-9, 12-13

7 At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. 8 Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand. 9 For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.”

12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the LORD, but only from the physicians. 13 Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his fathers.

Psalm 19:13
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.

Sharing: King Asa had tasted the grace and mercy from the Lord but yet at the end of his reign, he committed sin of not relying on God's power but rather relied on others. He did not even trust God when He suffered disease of his feet. God was using this to teach him to return back to Him and trust Him but at the end King Asa willfully seeking physicians help. One would think that King Asa would learned from the past and return back to God, but he did not. I really want to know why but I not sure I have any good answer. King David may not know why either but this he knew: we have many willful sins that rule over us, strangle us and triumph over the rule from God.
Let us be carefull and exam ourselves any strong will we may have that is opposit to God's will. Let us not like King Asa who knew that he did something wrong and not willing to return back to God and this let to his death. Let us like King David, the only will that he has is always return back to God, no matter how great his sins were.

Proverbs 19:23

23 Fear of the Lord leads to life,
bringing security and protection from harm.

Why is fearing of the Lord leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm?  Paul said in Roman 7:4-13 (today scripture) that we died with the power of the sinful law when we died with Christ. And God's law reveals our sin, and if we continue to sin will bring us spiritual death. Therefore there is only one solution, obey God's law and fear that we would be spiritually separated from God if we continue to sin.  Only until then our life is secure and protected from sinful harm. It is so true for me this week, even I have closeness to Christ but when I sin, my spiritual connection with Him was closed down as I could not write my sharing for 2 days. But God listens to my prayer of repentance, and let me see Him face to face again just like what happened to David in Psalm 17:1-7, 15 (today scripture).  Thank you God for continuing to forgive me, so my new life in you is not wasted. Please help me to fear of you more and more

Romans 5
14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come. 15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

(Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur)

12 He said to them, “You are the heads of the Levitical families; you and your fellow Levites are to consecrate yourselves and bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it. 13 It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the LORD our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” 14 So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.

After reading today's scripture and looking at my personal daily journal, I am thankful that God opens my eyes to see and remind me of actions to take:
- We must understand God's name first.  (Psalm 9:10, Act 29:23)
- If God is God, we should rely in Him but must be with a softened heart. (1 Chronicle 12:18, Act 29:27)
- Praise God for the joys that He has already granted us, refuge peacefully in His shelter and let Him judge over our "enemies" (including ourselves). (Psalm 9:7-9)
- Don't be a dishonest fool, don't be a knowledge-less enthusiastic believer, and don't blame God when our foolishness ruins our own life. (Proverb 19:1-3)
Summary: Spend our best time to understand God, praise Him for everything He has done for us, rely and wait in Him with a softened heart.  Meanwhile, be honest of what we know about Him, learn what we don't know about Him, and beware that only our own foolishness can ruin our own life and those that live with us.

Dear Lord, please open and soften all our hearts, so we can understand more about you and depend much less of our self centered "almighty" pride and foolishness

[Ref. “The Prayer of Jabez” by Bruce Wikinson]

Acts 24

24 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. 25 As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” 26 At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.

Sharing:

From these verses, we can observe that God’s words do carry power and it even penetrates Felix’s heart – Felix was afraid. However, the temporary fear didn’t give away to his lust for wealth. This serves a good reminder to us of how difficult it is to run away from our sinful nature.

Sharing:  From these verses, we can clearly see how much effort that King Josiah took to remove the idols from Jerusalem, Bethel, Samaria, etc... People may ask what a idol is  in our modern time. I believe Idol is anything that we put ahead of God (or considered of higher priority than God).  Let's  be alert and guard our hearts against any type of idol whether it is  Money, Social Status , or Power.

Acts21
30 The whole city was aroused, and the people came running from all directions. Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple, and immediately the gates were shut.
36 The crowd that followed kept shouting, “Away with him!”
Proverbs 18
 10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.

Sharing
Paul experienced what our Lord has been through.  The way of the cross is what the true followers of our Lord will go through.  Yet, we also have the promise from God that "The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." May we live by God's promise and not by sight.

2 King 19

1 When King Hezekiah heard their report, he tore his clothes and put on burlap and went into the Temple of the Lord2 And he sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the court secretary, and the leading priests, all dressed in burlap, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz. 3 They told him, “This is what King Hezekiah says: Today is a day of trouble, insults, and disgrace. It is like when a child is ready to be born, but the mother has no strength to deliver the baby. 4 But perhaps the Lord your God has heard the Assyrian chief of staff,[f] sent by the king to defy the living God, and will punish him for his words. Oh, pray for those of us who are left!”

5 After King Hezekiah’s officials delivered the king’s message to Isaiah, 6 the prophet replied, “Say to your master, ‘This is what the Lord says: Do not be disturbed by this blasphemous speech against me from the Assyrian king’s messengers. 7 Listen! I myself will move against him,[g] and the king will receive a message that he is needed at home. So he will return to his land, where I will have him killed with a sword.’”

Act 21

13 But he said, “Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.” 14 When it was clear that we couldn’t persuade him, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done."

Psalm 149

1 Praise the Lord!

Sing to the Lord a new song.
Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

 4 For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them.
Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

6 Let the praises of God be in their mouths,
and a sharp sword in their hands—
7 to execute vengeance on the nations
      and punishment on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with shackles
and their leaders with iron chains,
9 to execute the judgment written against them.
This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones.

   Praise the Lord!

Sharing:  In front of God, we must be humble, faithful, fearful, repentful, and prayful at all time.  God will listen to our tearful and remorseful prayer, or He will hide His face from us to let us drown ourselves in ocean of sins and thirsty enemies.  If we want to rejoice and sing new songs everyday, we must treasure the glorious privilege that God has promised bestowing us.  Remember God hates idols in our life.  Be very mindful that in human history, many kings and Israelites failed to worship our God as the only God but to worship many other gods and idots, and as a result they suffered greatly for almost 90% of their history.   Who is the idot in our life that we worship more than God?  Do we love Christ enough that jail and death will not separate us from Him?
