Exodus 13: 14-16
14 So it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall say to him, ‘By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all males that open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 It shall be as a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”

Being parents, we have many responsibilities to our children. And one of them, as  Christians, is to tell them how great our God is and His deliverance and redeeming power in our lives. Here God set up these ceremonies so the parents of Israelites can remind their children about the awesome and mighty strength of God who brought them out of Egypt.
Let us do the same. Let us tell our children how God delivered us when we faced our trial and difficulties and how His mighty hand had delivered us.

Exodus 12
observe this ceremony. 26 And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ 27 then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’”

Exodus 13
14 “In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Sharing:
Clearly, it is God desire for the parents to pass on the faith to the next generation.  Do we live in a way that makes our children wonder and ask about our faith or we live in a way that is no different than most in the world and our children have no interest of our life style?  This reminds me that I need to live before my children, show my life style to them.

16 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you.
17 Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and entreat the Lord your God, that He may take away from me this death only.”

Sharing:
Pharaoh’s acknowledgment of sinning against God and Moses and Aaron teaches us the stubbornness of Pharaoh – not until he realizes that he is at the end of his rope, he wouldn’t ask for forgiveness. However, his confession is never sincere in nature. This reminds me of how weak is our flesh and how rebellious is human heart.

Exodus 5:22
Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.

Sharing: When Moses spoke in the name of the Lord, he did not see the things God promised fulfilled immediately. But according to the Scriptures, we know that what God promised to Moses did fulfill in HIS timing. Sometimes we don't see things going well when we serve in the name of the Lord. But we know that it will be in God's good hands if what we serve is pleasing in HIS eye.

Exodus 4
10 But Moses pleaded with the LORD, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even you spoke to me.”
11 Then the LORD asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or not speak, hear or not hear, see or not see? Is it not I, the LORD?
12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”
13 But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”
14 Then the LORD became angry with Moses. “All right,” he said. “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well.
Matthew 18

1 About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”
2 Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them.
3 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.
4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

5 “And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me.
6 But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in sea.
10 “Beware that you don’t look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my heavenly Father.[c]

12 “If a man has 100 sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave 99 others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost
13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the 99 that didn’t wander away!
14 In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.

15 “If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.
16 But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses.
17 If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.
Psalm 22

19 O LORD, do not stay far away!  You are my strength; come quickly to my aid!
22 I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people.
Proverbs 5

18 Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.  Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
19 She is a loving deer, a graceful doe.  Let her breasts satisfy you always.  May you always be captivated by her love.
Sharing:  Dear Lord, your Word is like a mirror to me.  I see my dirts, and I see that you are helping me to clean them up.   This has been a difficult month for me, as I face many problems inside my heart and soul.  I found no clear solution until today:  I see God is providing timely solution (or call for action) for my problems:
- I have doubted God as I frequently said inside:  Please send anyone else.  I am not good enough.  God is angry at me.
- I have sinned against God in my thought and in private:  Turn from my sins and become as humble as the little children
- I have not welcome my children as if their souls are my top priority in life:  Don't let any of these little one  fall into sin.
- I have seen lost one in my family but I am not helping them, and instead I judge them inside:  Leave the 99 others and search for the one that is lost
- I have experienced other believer sinned against me, and I become sad, quiet, hate, and lost hope:  Go privately and point out the offense.....
- My negative emotion is self centered and trapped, and there is no way out: O Lord, You are my strength and you will not stay far away.
- I envy many Christian families of having a wonderful marriage, and I keep on failing:  Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you....

Thank you God of giving these messages to me.  Please don't be angry at me, I will learn to be humble like children, I will help children not to fall into sin, I will help the one that is lost especially in my family and please let me have the courage to go private and be honest.  I know  I can't do this by myself, please don't stay far away because you are my strength.  Please let my wife be a fountain of blessing to my family.  Thank you Lord.  Amen.

Ps 19:1    The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Sharing:

Ro 1:20    For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

11 Then the Angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, ‘Jacob.’ And I said, ‘Here I am.’
12 And He said, ‘Lift your eyes now and see, all the rams which leap on the flocks are streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you.
13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar and where you made a vow to Me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.’” (NKJV)

Sharing:
It is very encouraging to learn that God “sees” Jacob’s difficulties in working with his mother’s brother, Laban – God is just and He sees! (Genesis 31:12)
At this time, God appeared to Jacob and declared that He is “the” God of Bethel (Genesis 31:13). This tells us that God is also a “listening” God, because He listened to the vow that Jacob has made (Genesis 28:19-22). What a blessing that we can be God’s children, because He sees, He hears and He delivers us from difficulties. All He asks from us is a submissive heart to where He wants us to go!

How often we see ourselves higher than we should be. Our focus is not on our abilities but rather having the heart of fear to God. Without this fear we could not depart from evil. This fear does not suppress us but rather giving us nourishment to free from doing wrong. The "strength" in this passage also means drink or refreshment. The fear of  God will give us strength of refreshment to keep ourselves away from doing evil. God is on the side who fear Him and he will help us during our trial and temptation.

Jonathan
Genesis 17

Abram Is Named Abraham and Sarai is Named Sarah

1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life.
2 I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.”
3 At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him,
4 “This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations!
5 What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations.
6 I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them!
7 “I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God
and the God of your descendants after you.
8 And I will give the entire land of Canaan, where you now live as a foreigner, to you and your descendants. It will be their possession forever, and I will be their God.”
9 Then God said to Abraham, “Your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility.
15 Then God said to Abraham, “Regarding Sarai, your wife—her name will no longer be Sarai. From now on her name will be Sarah.
16 And I will bless her and give you a son from her! Yes, I will bless her richly, and she will become the mother of many nations. Kings of nations will be
     among her descendants.”
17 Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. “How could I become a father at the age of 100?” he thought. “
And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?”
18 So Abraham said to God, “May Ishmael live under your special blessing!”
Proverbs 2

1 My child, listen to what I say,
      and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom,
      and concentrate on understanding.
 3 Cry out for insight,
      and ask for understanding.
 4 Search for them as you would for silver;
      seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
Sharing:  When God changed Abram and Sarai's name to Abraham and Sarah, He just wanted them to obey the terms of the covenant from generation to generations.
From that we see God gave them a new life with a new name and asked them to propagate the new life to generations to come.  A great blessing comes with great responsibility.  To fulfill such responsibility, God reminds His children in Proverbs 2 to listen to His commands, to understand His wisdom and insight (far sight for us), and to seek deeper understanding of God's treasure already prepared for us (our destiny in His plan).   Only until then can we understand that we must fear Him to obtain the full blessing, otherwise the side result of Ishmael or blessing becomes cursing can come to our life.   May God see the little virtue in us and in our family that He will bless us a new life that connects to His big plan.   May I take my responsibility seriously to pass on God's covenant with us from our family to generation to come.   Please help me, Lord. Thank for listening to my prayer.

15 (Genesis 15)
And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness (NKJV).

Sharing:
The simple verse carries a significant meaning between God and man. This seemingly simple action of “believed in the LORD” taken by Abram showed us how can we be credited for God’s righteousness. It is the base of apostle Paul’s “Justified by Faith” doctrine and it serves as a reminder to us that we were justified because we received Him as our Lord.

Matthew 5
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Sharing:  LORD Jesus said we are the light and should be shining for people to see God's glory . However most of the time we prefer to hide under the table (the comfort zone) and burn for nothing. May the Lord grant us courage and love.

Matthew 4:16
the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

Ge 6:13      So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.

Ge 6:14      So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.

Ge 6:15      This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.

Ge 6:16      Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

Ge 6:17      I am going to bring flood waters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.

Ge 6:18      But I will establish my covenant with you (Noah), and you will enter the ark--you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.

The Ark represented God’s judgment (Verses 13 & 17) and salvation (Verse 18) which are the reflection of God’s character---His holiness and love.

God gave a detail blueprint to Noah to construct a big boat (verses 14 to 16)--so wide, so long, so high, what kind of material, and so forth. But something is not in the blueprint. Do you see what is missing? Ah! The Rudder.

Many times, we try to control our own destiny with our own rudder, we have our own way, but God would like us to surrender to Him and let Him take care of our destiny.
