John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.
Sharing: The invisible God, the profound Word and our salvation Lord Jesus Christ all existed at the beginning, and the Son of God is called the Word, as if the Son of God was sent in order to reveal his Father's mind to the world. If we don't study the Word, we will not comprehend Jesus's light can shine in our life in darkness, and therefore how can we tap into God's Almighty plan for each of us.   May these paragraphs encourage us to study the Word with all your heart, mind and soul.

Judges 7
9 During that night the LORD said to Gideon, “Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands. 10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah 11 and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp.” So he and Purah his servant went down to the outposts of the camp. 12 The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.
13 Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.”
14 His friend responded, “This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.”
15 When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped God. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, “Get up! The LORD has given the Midianite camp into your hands.”

Lk 23:39   One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"

Lk 23:40   But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence?

Lk 23:41   We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."

Lk 23:42   Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

Share/Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, you did not deserved to die but you did it anyway for my sins. People hurled insults at you but you showed them forgiveness in return. Teach me not to be a person of ingratitude but to love you more. Amen

Scripture of the date: Judges 6:36-40

36 Then Gideon said to God, “If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised,

37 prove it to me in this way. I will put a wool fleece on the threshing floor tonight. If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.”

38 And that is just what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water.

39 Then Gideon said to God, “Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. Let me use the fleece for one more test. This time let the fleece remain dry while the ground around it is wet with dew.”

40 So that night God did as Gideon asked. The fleece was dry in the morning, but the ground was covered with dew.

Sharing:

Q: Should we in these modern times use the Gideon’s methodology (Judges 6:36-40) to seek God’s will?

A: While absolute negation is a dangerous thing, my answer is still cautiously “NO!” We are so blessed, comparing with the peoples in Gidian’s time, that today we have the privilege to go to God and pray because Jesus had paid for our sins; we are given by God the minds to understand the situation only if we allow God to regenerate our minds; we have a vast information system which can assist us to investigate the various alternatives; we have the brothers and sisters in church with whom we can discuss our situations; finally, we have the Bible and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who gives us certitude to execute our plan. Here is the easy way to remember how God GUIDE us in situations throughout our lives:

G---go to God to pray

U---understand the situation

I --- investigate the alternatives

D---discuss with brothers and sisters

E---execute the plan with confidence

11 The LORD knows all human plans;
he knows that they are futile.

12 Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD,
   the one you teach from your law;
13 you grant them relief from days of trouble,
till a pit is dug for the wicked.

18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,”

19 When anxiety was great within me,

Judges 2
4 When the angel of the LORD had spoken these things to all the Israelites, the people wept aloud,
5 and they called that place Bokim. There they offered sacrifices to the LORD.

Sharing:
Bokim means “weepers”. Weeping could mean regret and remorse usually. Because Israelites disobeyed the LORD’s command to drive out the remaining Canaanites and break down their alters, the LORD warned them that He won’t drive the remaining Canaanites out for them and the Canaanites gods would become snares to them. So, the Israelites wept aloud. This reminds me of how important it is to follow God’s command closely and He is a jealousy God.

Joshua 24
14 “Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away
the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in
Egypt, and serve the LORD.
15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for

ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in
whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will
serve the LORD.”

Joshua 21:
43 So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.
44 The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the    LORD gave all their enemies into their hands.
45 Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
Joshua 22
1 Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh
2 and said to them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and you have obeyed me in everything I commanded.
3 For a long time now—to this very day—you have not deserted your fellow Israelites but have carried out the mission the LORD your God gave you.
4 Now that the LORD your God has given them rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.
5 But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."

Sharing: In Joshua 21:43-45, I see that God gives us an order that comes with His promises, if we follow Him step by step under His wing, He will deliver ALL His promises no matter how impossible the situation maybe for us.   In Joshua 22:1-5, I see man can negotiate with Godly servant and God, and if we obey all God's commands, God will also deliver the negotiated promises.    In summary, if we have faith in our faithful God, and obey and do His commands, He will remove mountains and enemies to keep His promises to us.  God reminds me to fear Him, so I have nothing to fear

Scripture: Luke 18:38-43
Lk 18:38   He called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Lk 18:39   Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Lk 18:40   Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him,
Lk 18:41   "What do you want me to do for you?" "Lord, I want to see," he replied.
Lk 18:42   Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you."
Lk 18:43   Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

Sharing: Many things I can learn from this blind man. First, he recognized Jesus as God when he addressed Him “Lord”---he knew whom he worshiped. Second, he was persistent in his request regardless of the public rejection---persistent prayers and not to conform to peer pressure. Third, he was a thankful person---praising God and returned glory to Him.

Luke 16 12 As Jesus was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[a] met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

Luke 17:7-10
7 “Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8 Would he not rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Sharing:
A mentality of a good servant is just to serve and not asking anything in return. We often want something in return when we serve our Lord, either praise or recognition or something good may happen to us. No, this is not the right mentality in serving our God. We have to serve Him with a humble attitude. It is our duty to serve Him because He love us and paid a high price for us, His life.

32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

Sharing: Our heavenly father wishes that we can truly know Him well.  He wants us to know there are two things can bring Him joy: 1. the lost is found 2. when the lost is found, His children will rejoice with Him and celebrate.

Deuteronomy 34

The Death of Moses
1 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, 3 the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4 Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.”

5 And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as the LORD had said. 6 He buried him[a] in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. 8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over.

9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit[b] of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses.

10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, 11 who did all those signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

Sharing:  I read these passages with a trembling heart that God did not allow Moses to land on Caanan after 40 years of using his ability to deliver Israel from Egypt, then spent 40 years in the wilderness to attend to his father-in-law's sheep while his self confidence demolished, and spent his last 40 years of his life being used of God to do what he was called to do.   I keep on asking myself why couldn't God forgive Moses and if God couldn't forgive Moses, how can He forgive me and you.......  One reason was Moses misrepresenting God at Meribah (Number 20) as being angry when He was not, and another was that Moses had defaced a beautiful picture of Jesus's redemptive work through the rock which provided water in the wilderness.  My trembling heart was not at ease until I see the following God's grace on Moses:
1. Moses pleaded with God to see Caanan, and God took him to Mount Nebo and to the peak of Pisgah that Moses saw the whole Promised land before he died at Moab.
2. Even Moses knew God wanted him to mentor Joshua to replace him to go to Caanan, God's life in Moses prompted him to do everything he could to love the people, prepare them to go in, and to shepherd Joshua to be a successful leader.
3. At the age of a hundred of twenty, God gave Moses the eye-sight to see, and the strength to climb to the peak of Mount Nebo as if God anticipated Moses's plead
4. God reserved the right to know Him face to face only to Moses, and never again for another human prophet in the Bible, and that's special love that God reserved for Moses

Last but not least, I re-affirm that God is totally fair to give out blessings and curses (punishment) to all of His faithful servants including Moses here.
May God turn my trembling heart into a God fearful heart.

Luke 12
35 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning,
36 like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.

Sharing: There are two things stand out to me from these two verses. One is without a doubt the servants know their master shall be returning and they need to be standby; and the other is the servants know they have to be ready anytime (without sleeping) in order to open door for their master. This reminds me again that I have to be alert and of sober mind and strive toward being His faithful steward.

Lk 12:20    "'But God said to him, `You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?

Lk 12:21    "'This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

Lk 12:25    Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Lk 12:26    Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

Lk 12:34    For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Sharing: God, for our own good, uses these verses to warn us and comfort us in order to change our view of life. In our lives, we just keep on keeping busy without keeping eternity in mind. May God help us all to invest our lives and resources in areas of eternal values.

Dt 30:15   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.

Dt 30:16   For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

Dt 30:19  This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

Sharing: In our lifetimes we make tens of thousands of choices. Most of them are non-consequential. Only few of them can affect the courses of our entire lives and are irreversible.

  • One of the decisions---the decision for Christ---is so pivotal that it determines our eternal destiny; it is a decision one MUST consciously make. No one can ignore it, because indecision itself is a decision and not to decide is to decide not to.
  • Once we have been saved, we have another important choice to make which is described in these three verses. They concern the choice between life and death and the choice between blessings and curses.

I read them with a trembling heart. We must heed these verses as individuals and as the body of Christ. The [House of Christ’s Love] has no exception but to keep the commands, decrees and laws of the Lord in order to live. Otherwise, we shall be spit out from the mouth of the Holy God

Deuteronomy 28 9 The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. 11 The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you.

Proverbs 12:18 reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”    41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Sharing:

In the road of following Christ, we are distracted by many things and sometime even people. We are worries and upset about many things. Let us remember the foremost thing we should care about, which is sitting at our Lord's feet and listening to what he have to say. As our Lord Jesus Christ said it is the one thing that is needed. Others will be settle in place

God desires us to know how to enter His promise and enjoy His presence.  Often we worry about the needs of ministries, all sorts of short comings and our own futures and neglect the fact that we may have already crossed the Jordan River, have entered the land of His promise.  The Lord is already in the midst of us.  Let us truly know how to enjoy Him, rejoice before Him with peace.

Luke 9:17-20
17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!” 18" Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! 19Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. 20But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”
Sharing: Praise the Lord. His name carries power. Very often, we ask for the power, talent, blessing from God, which is perfectly fine. But as Jesus remind us the thing that we shall cherish most is our status (as the children of God) in His kingdom and our relationship with Him.

Luke: 8 “If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. 9 Heal the sick, and tell them, ‘The Kingdom of God is near you now.’ 10 But if a town refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this—the Kingdom of God is near!’ 12 I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day.
Sharing, These verses remind us that we shall treat God's servants with respect and even a sense of fear, because they are selected and dispatched by God. Even though how to treat God's servants (e.g. Pastor in a church) does not sound like a topic of much spiritual importance, it could lead to (contribute to) serious consequence as we had all experienced in the past. May we not repeat the same mistake in the future.

Luke 10
2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

Sharing: To be like "lambs among wolves" is scary. However, in Matthew 10:16, After saying: "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves," the Lord provides a strategy: "Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." May the Lord speak through us when we are out in the field.

Psalms 94:22 But the Lord has become my fortress,
and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.
