4 (2 Corinthians 4)
18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

5 (2 Corinthians 5)
7
For we live by faith, not by sight.

Sharing:

To live by faith not by sight is a life-long lesson that we need to learn.  This is because what is seen is temporary instead of eternal, per Apostle Paul. I always think I can only take one day at a time, which is our Lord measured for me. The only thing that I need to worry is “Am I heading toward our Lord's path or toward a path of this world?”

God is greater than what we can understand (Job 36:26) >> He blesses those that listen and obey, and He hides His face from those that don't.....
For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen
in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6) >> God is light, and satan is darkness.......
They did not conquer the land with their swords, it was not their own strong arm that gave them victory.  It was God's right hand and strong arm,
and His blinding light from His face that helped them, for He loved them (Psalm 44:3) >> Without God's willing help, we will face defeat after defeat
and even our hard fought victories are non-consequential ......
The Lord preserves those with knowledge, but he ruins the plans of the treacherous (Proverb 22:12) >> Without knowledge about God, we can't fantom
His love and judgement, ever.
May the Words from God light up our daily life abundantly

The psalmist's prayer did not end at asking for rescue and help while in time of trouble but at wanting to worship God, for HE is his joy and his delight. May God send His light and His faithful care to lead us and help us to build up our faith so that we are able to worship and glorify Him in all circumstances

Psalm 39 1-5; 7
1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
2 But when I was silent and still,  not even saying anything good, my anguish increased.
3 My heart grew hot within me,  and as I meditated, the fire burned;  then I spoke with my tongue:
4 “Show me, O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days;  let me know how fleeting is my life.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth;  the span of my years is as nothing before you.  Each man’s life is but a breath.

7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for?  My hope is in you.

David wrote this psalm and he tried very hard to keep his mouth shut in the mid of conflict.  Even though he can but he could not quiet his heart. Out of his anguish,  he only asked God to show how feeble his life was and remind us that our lives are just a breath.
Life is short. Let us turn our eyes to God. Let us not being pull down by the frustration and all the negativity surround us. Let focus on God and give our lives for Him and his kingdom only because just like King David said: "My hope is in you."
There will be light at the end of the tunnel

Job 2:3 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”

2:9-10 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”  He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.

20 Mordecai recorded these events and sent letters to the Jews near and far, throughout all the provinces of King Xerxes, 21 calling on them to celebrate an annual festival on these two days.[i] 22 He told them to celebrate these days with feasting and gladness and by giving gifts of food to each other and presents to the poor. This would commemorate a time when the Jews gained relief from their enemies, when their sorrow was turned into gladness and their mourning into joy.
1 Corinthian 13
13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
1 Corinthian 12
27 All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church:

those who have the gift of healing,

Sharing:  This morning, God led me to these passages.  I didn't know why at first, but now I know.  God's love to the Jewish people was demonstrated in Esther and Mordecai (Esther 9:22-23), and I was so touched today to find out in my old schoolmate's wife funeral that she was saved on July 31,2011.  God testifies to me that God's love will last forever (1 Corinthian 13:13).  During my drive to NJ, I sang the song from 1 Corinthian 13:4-7 "Love is patience and kind....." all the way there, now I know God is explaining to me what love really means.  At night, we met Pastor Huang and Pastor's wife talking about her mother passing to be with the Lord in July this year was another testimony to me that "All of us together are Christ's body, and each of us is a part of it" (1 Corinthian 12:27), and God's love is the most important glue that links us all together from birth to death, and from now to eternality.    With such Almighty love, Psalm 37 points out to me that I have to, and I can commit everything I do to the Lord.  Trust Him, He will help us, and will make our innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of our cause will shine like the noonday sun (Psalm 37:3-6).  I praise God and my Lord Jesus Christ for such an eventful and abundant day

Ps 34:15  The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry;

Ps 34:18  The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Ps 34:19  A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;

Devotional Sharing:

These three verses (also verses 7 and 8 altogether) carry two important points:

  • Even a righteous man encounters troubles (v.19) in his life. Our Lord is a supreme example when we realize that there was a sinless man who died for the sinners and endured afflictions.
  • Psalm 34 contains an overarching message: In our times of tribulation, our God will never forsake us but walk closely with us.

Peter Kreeft, the author of Making Sense Out of Suffering, gave the following illustration:

Let’s say Romeo and Juliet have a much deeper and more mature love than in Shakespeare’s play. Let’s say that what Romeo wants most in all the world is Juliet. And let’s say that he has lost all friends and possessions, and he’s bleeding and he thinks Juliet is dead.

Then he sees Juliet rise up and say, ‘Romeo, where are you? I’m not dead; are you?’ Is Romeo completely happy? Yes. Completely happy? Yes. Does he mind at all that he’s bleeding and tattered and poor? Not at all!! He would much rather be in love in the South Bronx then divorced in Honolulu.

Lovers don’t want explanations, but presence. If we really love our Lord Jesus, in the midst of suffering, we won’t ask ‘Why?’ but are satisfied with His presence.

Thought Provoking Sharing:

1 On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth and having dust on their heads. 2 Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the wickedness of their fathers. 3 They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the LORD their God.

      saying, “You are my God!”
15 My future is in your hands.
Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.
16 Let your favor shine on your servant.
In your unfailing love, rescue me.
17 Don’t let me be disgraced, O Lord,
for I call out to you for help.
1 Corinthians 6
18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
If your life is like mine that there seem always someone hunting you down relentlessly, you must have been seeking the desperately needed rescue from someone more powerful than you, and if that rescue does not come in time, you may worry to death that you will be forever disgraced by your wicked enemies.  What can you do?  In Psalm 31, David told us instead of trusting ourselves we should trust in our Lord,  and instead of trying to control everything we should put our future in His hands.  Moreover, instead of trying to be the shining master we should let God's favor shine on us as servant.  If God is our master, He will not let our own inequity and enemies disgrace us, not just for once or twice but for forever because His love is unfailing.  Just follow Him in good time, and call out to Him for help in bad time.  Our God is always there for us if we don't turn our back against Him, or indulge ourselves in sins especially sexual sin

For seven days they celebrated with joy the Festival of Unleavened Bread, because the LORD had filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel.

Sharing:
To fulfill His word through prophet Jeremiah (2 Chronicles 36:21), God changed the attitude of the king of Assyria to assist in building God’s house and He filled Israelites with joy. God is sovereign and faithful! This lets me think of the verse from Proverbs 21:1 In the LORD’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.
Therefore, let’s pray for the leaders of this country, may God change their attitudes toward God

1Co 3:11  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1Co 3:12  If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,

1Co 3:13  his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.

1Co 3:14  If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.

1Co 3:15  If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

Sharing: God’s law is firm. I thank God that He reminds us not to build our lives on wood, hay or straw, but on gold, silver, and costly stones which can withstand the test of fire; i.e., the final judgment

Sharing:

Psalm 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Sharing:

1 Corinthians 2  3 I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.

Psalm 27: 3-5

3 Though an army besiege me,  my heart will not fear; though war break out against me,  even then will I be confident.
4 One thing I ask of the LORD,   this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD  all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD  and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble  he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and set me high upon a rock.

Sharing:
Very often we cannot control the situations around us. So is the situation with David. But he knew who is in control.
It is God. David put his fear and confident into the hands of God. He seek His dwelling place, not his own hiding place.
He gazed upon the beauty of the Lord, not his problems before him
David knew that he is in good hands, the hands of God.
Let us learn from David, to stay close to God and focus upon Him only.

31 王 站 在 他 的 地 位 上 , 在 耶 和 华 面 前 立 约 , 要 尽 心 尽 性 地 顺 从 耶 和 华 , 遵 守 他 的 诫 命 、 法 度 、 律 例 , 成 就 这 书 上 所 记 的 约 言 ;

Sharing by Ling:

Proverbs 18
12 Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud,
  but humility comes before honor.

Sharing: A spiritual person is a humble person.  A pastor said "Pride
is like body odor.  You don't know it but everybody around you knows
it".  This is so true.  Many times I was proud but I didn't know it.
May God help me to be sensitive about pride and continue to learn to
be a more humble person.
